In the year and a half since Shower to the People has been open, the free program for those who are homeless or otherwise lacking facilities to bathe has become so popular that it’s expanding.

Instead of just being open Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the remodeled bathhouse at The Sanctuary Church on Colorado Springs’ west side as of this month also is available from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays.

A nearby parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, has stepped up with a team of volunteers who have been trained to operate the program, said Pastor C., an ordained minister who runs outreach ministry at The Sanctuary Church, which specializes in ministering to people who have addictions.
